Organizers, residents air safety concerns

Organizers of a recent community information session in Clarke Square say the resources they offer can help residents make a safer and friendlier neighborhood.

Only a handful of residents attended “Hear your voice in Clarke Square,” a recent event sponsored by the Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative (CSNI) that brought  law enforcement representatives and political leaders to the Milwaukee Christian Center, 2231 W. Greenfield Ave., to meet with residents and share information.

Undeterred by the small crowd despite distributing more than 3,000 flyers for the event, speakers discussed housing, jobs and safety, among other topics.

UPDATED: Milwaukee Council Moves Forward on Waukesha Water Request

The Milwaukee Common Council voted Tuesday without comment to effectively begin conversations with the Waukesha Water Utility as Waukesha looks to purchase Lake Michigan water. The resolution begins the study portion before the two communities enter into negotiations.

“The Common Council directs all city departments and agencies to cooperate with the Milwaukee Water Works, the Legislative Reference Bureau and the Department of City Development in providing all necessary information for studies of proposed water service agreements pursuant to this resolution,” states the resolution passed by the Milwaukee Common Council on Tuesday.

Storm topples tree in Clarke Square

Severe thunderstorms and strong winds pushed through the area overnight, toppling a tree on the 1100 block of S. 18th street in Clarke Square. City crews worked through the night removing the tree and several sidewalk panels dislodged when the tree was unrooted.

Just a few short weeks ago, many Wisconsinites had enough cold weather and dreamed of the warm, lazy day's of Summer. Now that the radiant warmth is upon us, many FOX 6 viewers may be scrambling to “beat the heat.”

FOX6 Meterologist Brittney Sager said, “Heat advisories are effective all across the FOX6 viewing area for today and tomorrow.” Sager explains that high temperatures factored in with high humidity levels may put the heat index around 100 degrees.
